We’re continuing our nostalgia trip down 2019 with a visit to our Independence Day celebrations this year. At Centre for Capoeira India, Independence Day celebrations are always unique spectacles of fun and music and joy and celebration. This year was no different.
Mahatma Gandhi and Babasaheb Ambedkar and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru met Princess Isabella and Mestre Pastinha and Mestre Bimba at our Independence Day celebrations this year. Our students witnessed the parallels between the struggle of slaves in Brazil who originated capoeira and India’s freedom movement.
And in capoeira, we found freedom. Freedom from rules of expression. Freedom from physical limitations. Freedom for our imaginations to soar and our souls to dance.
